Over winter, the eggs hatch into incredibly little salmon identified as alevin which continue to have their yolk sac connected. Alevins remain near the redd to get a couple of months hiding from predators inside the spaces in between gravel. For the duration of this stage they consume the yolk sac and develop in dimension. NOAA’s Southwest Fish
